Scholarship Program

Purpose:

The Francelo Lazaro Charitable Foundation (FLCF) offers financial support to deserving students in their studies, providing them with financial resources to excel academically. 

We are committed to investing in higher education by awarding scholarships for (current/prospective/enrolled) students to be used towards the cost of higher education in the (medical or arts) field.   Arts can be defined, but not limited to, culinary, fashion, and performance.

Benefit:

Each year the FLCF intends to award two scholarships in the amount of range of $500-$1500.  The amount is subject to change.

Eligibility:

The student must be accepted into or currently attending a full-time (12 Credit minimum per semester), or part-time (4 credit minimum per semester) program from an accredited college or junior community college or vocational school.  A completed scholarship application must be submitted to the FLCF no later than July 1st prior to the following Fall semester. The completed application must be submitted along with all required paperwork; applications missing any of the accompanying paperwork by July 1 will not be considered. 

Application Process:

Approximately, three months prior to the annual deadline of July 1st, the FLCF will distribute the program details to local schools, as well as social media, foundation supporters, and website. The foundation board members will review applications for completeness and prepare a summary for the Scholarship Selection Committee to review. The application will include an essay to be completed by the applicant as to one of the following:

  • Their interest in career path

  • Their passion for our Foundation's mission

  • The most influential person in their life

  • How they plan to make a difference in society

Scholarship Selection Committee:

The responsibility for selecting the scholarship winners will be held by the Scholarship Selection Committee. The Committee will consist of second-generation members of the Board (Grandkids of the beloved for whom the FLFC is named)

  1. The selection process will include review of the student’s academic record, school attendance record, as well as student’s work or volunteer work record. Students will also be evaluated on their leadership activities, communication skills, volunteer work, community involvement, focus on goals, work ethic, and school involvement. 

  2. Once the committee meets to make their determination, all the scholarship award winners will be notified. The scholarship award will be sent directly recipients. Award winners will be presented at the Annual Golf tournament or other planned venue. Winners will be invited to attend, if they are available.

  3. The recipient will also be recognized locally, social media and the FLCF website. 

Guidelines for Submission of Application:

This Annual Scholarship seeks to identify students who excel and have the potential of making significant contributions to society in the (medical, fashion performing arts) fields. Applicants must be accepted into or currently attending full time or part time (4 credit minimum) program from an accredited institution, junior community college or vocational school, be in good academic standing, show leadership potential, and make an impact on their communities. 

Applicability

The scholarship is for students pursuing a career in one of the following, but not limited to, fields or job categories:

  • Nursing (CNA, LPN or RN)

  • Therapeutic services (PT, OT, PTA or OTA)

  • Fashion Design

  • Music

  • Theater

  • Dance Performing Arts

  • Culinary

  • Hospitality

Process:

The selection process begins when a qualified candidate submits the completed application and supporting information along with original high school or college transcript, high school attendance records and 2 letters of recommendation. 

 

1. Each scholarship application is carefully considered by the Selection Committee and evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Academic Achievement

  • Leadership skills

  • Communication skills

  • School involvement

  • Volunteer/Community involvement

  • Work ethic

  • Goals

 

2. Essay (approximately 500 words)

Complete application must be submitted together. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. Applications and supporting documents will not be returned to applicant. It is recommended that the applicant keep copies for their records (with the exception of official sealed transcript)

Deadline for submission of applications is no later than July 1st, 2025.
